Although it's location wasn't the most convenient, the helpful staff more than made up for that by helping with transit information and by selling bus passes. We had a triple room (hard to find in Japan) which was nicely appointed and spotlessly clean. The restaurant was too expensive for us, but we found lots of small places to eat nearby, and we did enjoy a few beer, which were reasonable priced (even from the room fridge). We used the Aranvert as a base for exploring Osaka and Nara as well, and were very glad that we had stayed in Kyoto. Overall, a great experience.
